Quantitative analysis of hair / (toe)nail samples for the presence and concentrations of several elements.
**DO NOT WASH THE NAIL/HAIR SAMPLES BEFORE SENDING**
NAIL ANALYSIS: For optimal results, please send ONLY nail samples from AT LEAST each big toe. The sample(s) should be free of ANY nail polish, decorations/extensions, and/or other cosmetic/medical procedures. Ideally, the nails should not have had any nail polish or other cosmetic/medical procedures done on them for at least a week before harvesting them for analysis. The nail sample from each of the big toes must be at least 3mm (0.1in) long. Taking into account the speed of nail growth, such a nail sample should provide information on average mineral concentrations/exposure across the entire organism that occurred about 3 months ago. This is due to the fact that toenails grow at a rate of about 1mm per week and it takes about 3 months for the portion of the nail sent for analysis to grow from the nail bed to the tip of the toe, where it can be cut off and shipped for analysis. Once each of the big toe nails are cut, simply place them in a ziplock bag, seal it and mail to us. If you don't have a ziplock bag, simply place the samples on a sheet of clean paper (e.g. an A4 sheet) and then fold over several times to form a rectangular shape with the samples inside, place in an envelope and mail it to us.
NOTE: Since sometimes the nail clippings from only the big toes are not of sufficient size for proper analysis, if nails are available from the other toes, please send clippings from those as well in order to reduce the risk that we receive insufficient samples (which may compromise the test accuracy/results).
HAIR ANALYSIS: The amount of hair needed for proper analysis is in the range of 150mg-200mg per sample. The closer to the scalp the hair sample was taken from, the more recent timespan the mineral concentration results cover. For example, cutting a piece of hair from the base (i.e. touching the scalp) and then sending a 1.5cm (0.5in) long, 0.5cm (0.15in) wide piece starting from the base, should provide sufficient material to determine mineral concentration/exposure over the last month. For each additional 1.5cm (0.5in) of hair length away from the base/scalp, the timespan is extended by about 30 days (a month). For example, if a person sends a hair sample weighing at least 150mg, that is 1in long, 0.5in wide and has been cut from the base/scalp, this should provide information on AVERAGE mineral concentrations over the last 60 days (2 months). The mineral analysis service one can order from us is broken down into three (3) parts. Each one of those parts can be ordered separately, and also in combination with the rest. The parts are essentially the mineral groups available for analysis - nutritional elements (e.g. calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, iron, etc), toxic elements (e.g. lead, aluminium, cadmium, uranium, arsenic, etc), and miscellaneous elements found in trace amounts in humans (e.g. lithium, nickel, germanium, tin, vanadium, etc). Typically, a person orders all three (3) parts together as the results for an element from one part can support/explain the findings for an element from another part. For example, it is common for people with lead overload/toxicity to have low levels of one/more of the alkaline minerals calcium/sodium/magnesium/potassium as lead can displace those elements inside the cell. Thus, having high lead (a member of the toxic group) levels and low level(s) of one or more of the alkaline minerals (members of the nutritional group) better supports the hypothesis of lead overload/toxicity than only a finding or high lead levels, or only a finding of low level(s) of one/more of the alkaline minerals. That being said, if so desired, a person could also place an order for just the nutritional elements, just the toxic ones, just the miscellaneous ones, or any combination thereof.
